A Georgetown man suspected of shooting another man and fleeing after a property dispute on Saturday, May 19 has been arrested.

Calvin Jackson, age 36, was booked into the Brown County Adult Detention Center on Wednesday evening, May 23 following a brief manhunt.

Jackson is accused of striking the victim, Fred Lillie, in the face with a 20-gauge shotgun and shooting him in the leg on Saturday afternoon. Investigators say Lillie was about five feet away from Jackson when Jackson allegedly shot him.

Just prior to the shooting, the two had been involved in a confrontation outside of Jackson’s home on Wells-Goecke Road near Georgetown over property belonging to Lillie and his son.

Lillie was in the process of moving out of Jackson’s home when the fight began.

Jackson and Lillie allegedly threw punches and kicks at each other before Jackson retrieved a shotgun from his home and shot Lillie, investigators said.

After being shot, Lillie was carried by a witness to a U-Haul truck Lillie had rented and taken to Grandma’s and Grandpa’s Carryout on US-68, where bystanders called 911. He was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say police subsequently arrived at Jackson’s home to arrest him, but he had already fled.

Jackson’s girlfriend was later arrested and charged with obstructing justice for allegedly helping Jackson flee the scene by dropping him off at a Family Dollar in Trotwood, a Dayton suburb, according to investigators.

Brown County Sheriff Gordon Ellis called on the public for help in locating Jackson prior to his arrest.

Jackson faces a preliminary charge of first-degree felony attempted murder and two counts of second-degree felonious assault in the incident. He pleaded not guilty at an arraignment Thursday morning.

Bond has been set at $250,000 cash, surety or property. A preliminary hearing has been set for May 31.
