Chatfield humanities professor nabbed with 3+ pounds of marijuana at post office

by Aaron Gibson, April 28, 2016

A Chatfield College professor was arrested Tuesday, April 26 allegedly picking up more than three pounds of marijuana at a Mt. Orab post office following a tip by federal agents with the US Postal Inspection Service.

Douglas Link, chair of the humanities department at Chatfield College in St. Martin, was taken into custody in front of the US Post Office – Mt. Orab branch on Tuesday.

The Brown County Drug & Major Crime Task Force allegedly recovered more than three pounds of marijuana in Link’s possession and an additional several pounds of marijuana inside his home during the course of the investigation, according to task force commander John Burke.

Burke said as a result of two search warrants conducted at Link’s home in Mt. Orab and his vehicle, the task force also seized 24 marijuana plants, grow lights, digital scales, and multiple firearms.

Link posted $25,000 bond following a not guilty plea in Brown County Municipal Court on Wednesday. He is being represented by defense attorney Michael P. Kelly and is scheduled to appear next on May 5.

Link faces a preliminary charge of third-degree felony drug possession, but could face more charges as the investigation is completed and the evidence is presented to a grand jury for indictment, Burke said.

In 2014, Link was honored with the Dean Agatha Fitzgerald, OSU Excellence in Teaching Award, an award the college says is given annually to “an instructor who exemplifies the academic spirit and values of Chatfield College.”

Link serves as the chair of the humanities department at Chatfield College and teaches history & political science.
