A Mt. Orab man accused of causing his 11-year-old grandson’s death is in jail on a $100,000 bond.
According to investigators, emergency services were dispatched to 17296 Minnick Road at 6:40 p.m. on Friday evening, Nov. 17, regarding a 911 call about an unresponsive juvenile. The caller said the child had experienced trouble breathing and went unconscious after being held down by his step-grandfather, who was attempting to stop an emotional outburst by the child.
The child, age 11, was transported to Mt. Orab Mercy Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Donald Herbert Martin Jr., age 58, faces a preliminary charge of third-degree felony reckless homicide in the case. He has pleaded not guilty.
Investigators believe the child’s death by asphyxiation was an accident.
