Georgetown woman charged with burglary and theft, $9,200 worth of stolen jewelry

A Georgetown woman was charged with burglary and theft Thursday, Nov 19 following an investigation by Brown County Sheriff’s Office into $9,200 worth of stolen items.

Leanna Beckett, of Markley Square Apartments in Georgetown, allegedly stole an estimated $9,200 worth of jewelry and other items, including food, a lawn mower, and battery charger, according to a criminal complaint filed by Deputy Fetters of Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

Beckett is accused of breaking into the victim’s home and stealing the jewelry over some period of time. Investigators believe her boyfriend, who was working in the home for the victim, was in on the crime.

The victim was home while the jewelry was stolen, according to investigators.

Beckett was questioned and allegedly admitted to selling the jewelry at three separate pawn shops.

The boyfriend has not been questioned, but could also face charges.

Beckett is free on $50,000 bond with the condition she is to wear an ankle bracelet. She has been charged with burglary and  theft.

86-year-old Mt Orab man sentenced for incident with two Brown County Sheriffs

Robert Ballein, age 86, of Mount Orab was sentenced Wednesday, Nov 18 for an incident at his home involving two Brown County Sheriff officers.

On Oct 4, Ballein threatened Corporal Eric Lang and Deputy George Dunning at his home on Lindsey Road, Sterling Township, according to court records.

Ballein was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated menacing and two counts of second-degree felony assault that night, according to jail records. The assault charges were not pursued in court. He posted $7,000 bond on Oct 6.

Appearing in court Wednesday, Nov 18 with attorney Nicholas D. Graman, Ballein pled guilty to one count of fourth-degree misdemeanor menacing.

The judge sentenced Ballein to 30 days jail suspended and one year of probation with the condition he is barred from being allowed to possess firearms.

Ballein was ordered to forfeit a Harrington & Richardson 12-gauge shotgun and a Harrington & Richardson .32 caliber revolver.

 

Man busted with child porn

A Brown County man was arrested Tuesday, Nov 17 after investigators with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) allegedly found child porn downloaded on his cell phone.

According to a statement filed in Brown County Municipal Court by social service worker Andrew Baughey, Ohio BCI obtained a search warrant on a cell phone belonging to suspect Dusten Wayne Walters in September.

Images of children in various stages of nudity were allegedly found on the phone, Baughey said.

Walters was taken into custody and questioned on Tuesday, Nov 17. He allegedly admitted he knew the pictures were illegal to possess, according to court records.

Walters is being held in the Butler County Jail, charged with second-degree felony pandering obscenity.
