High-speed pursuit, 2 officers injured, woman arrested

A Brown County woman is under arrest after she allegedly lead Ohio State Highway Patrol on a high-speed pursuit that left two responding troopers injured during the scuffle that followed.

According to court records, the incident occurred on Saturday, Oct 10 when a trooper observed Cynthia Felekey, age 47, cutting through traffic on eastbound State Route 32, Brown County, and driving at speeds in excess of 105 MPH.

After the trooper activated his lights and sirens, Felekey slowed her vehicle down to 80-85 MPH before stopping at a traffic light at the intersection of State Route 32 and US-62. The trooper then instructed Felekey to turn left and pull into a gas station, to which she nodded her head in acknowledgement. However, Felekey proceeded to drive past the gas station upon making the left, according to court documents.

Court records indicate the pursuit continued down US-62 and then onto Tri-County Highway at speeds ranging between 60-70 MPH. Felekey eventually pulled into a driveway at 10439 Tri-County Highway and parked in front of a garage.

Felekey then allegedly exited her vehicle and refused to comply with the orders of the officer. She was quoted as saying, “I got to get into this house.”

Upon being taken to the ground, a physical scuffle took place between the trooper and Felekey for approximately 2 minutes before he was able to handcuff her. According to the trooper, he injured his left thumb at some point during this scuffle.

According to court records, a second trooper arrived and aided in placing Felekey inside of the first trooper’s patrol car. However, after being seatbelted in the vehicle, Felekey was supposedly able to break free from the handcuffs and allegedly began taunting the officers. When attempting to place the handcuffs back on her, the troopers allegedly engaged in another scuffle, which they say lasted for approximately 4 minutes.

While Felekey was being taken down in the driveway during that scuffle, the second trooper broke his right ankle, according to the court documents.

The court documents continue, saying another Ohio State Highway Patrol officer and a Brown County Sheriff deputy arrived on scene to assist, and they held Felekey down until medical personnel could arrive to check her and themselves for injuries. Felekey reportedly made several threats to harm her ex-boyfriend’s current girlfriend, who lived inside of the residence, at that time.

Several prescription antidepressants, antipsychotics and anxiety medications were found inside of Felekey’s vehicle, and it was learned she was being sought for a protection order to be served against her after a previous incident that involved her at that residence.

Felekey was transported to Clermont Mercy Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and 72-hour hold, and then later brought to the Brown County Adult Detention Center on Wednesday evening, Oct 21. She has been charged with third-degree felony fleeing and eluding, fifth-degree felony obstructing official business, and first-degree misdemeanor resisting arrest.

The second trooper was brought to Mt. Orab Mercy Hospital and determined to have dislocated his right ankle. Two attempts to reset his ankle failed before he was moved to Anderson Mercy Hospital for a third attempt which succeeded. The trooper was put on medical leave and will require surgery to repair the multiple fractures he sustained in the incident.
